52nd National Inter-School Team Chess Championships 2011


The triumphant boys (Under 9 Category) with their medals.
At the 52nd National Inter-School Team Chess Championships 2011 organized by the Singapore Chess Federation, our school was awarded 3rd in the Boys Under 9 Category for South Zone.  <Read more>

Singapore Primary Science Olympiad (SPSO)




The Singapore Primary Science Olympiad (SPSO) is an annual national competition organised by the NUS High School of Mathematics and Science. This competition which is opened to Primary 5 pupils in all primary schools in Singapore, took place over two days and involved two rounds: Theory and Practical. Roy Ang Wei Heng of 5A achieved the Bronze award in this competition which was held in July.

Once again our Innowork@YZPS has made the school proud by emerging 1st runner-up in
Yescom 2011 where 32 Primary and Secondary schools took part in the competition.
The finale was held on 3 July 2011 in Toa Payoh HDB Hub where MP for
Marine Parade GRC, Ms Tin Pei Ling was the Guest-of-Honour.
During the award presentation on 2 Sept 2011, MP for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC,
Mr Zainudin Nordin presented the award at ITE College East. Innowork@YZPS pupils
were also featured in the Malay newspaper, Berita Harian , on 3 Sept 2011.

South 6 Cluster National Education Storytelling Competition




Two Yangzhengnites have done our school proud by clinching the Top 2 positions in the South 6 Cluster National Education Storytelling Competition which was held at the Ang Mo Kio Library on Friday 12 August 2011. There were a total of 12 competitors in total from all the primary schools in the South 6 Cluster.  And with this achievement, our school has emerged Champions in this National Education Storytelling Competition for two years in a row.

The First Runner-up in the Competition is Jared Ong from Primary 5A. And the Champion for the National Education Storytelling Competition is Gan Kai Bin, who is also from Primary 5A.

NATIONAL DAY 2011



The marching contingent proudly lifted the National Flag and with the school united in a sea of red and white, Yangzheng Primary School celebrated Singapore’s 46th Birthday this year, uplifting the National Day theme – ‘Majulah! The Singapore Spirit’. <Read more>

The Generals Order Competition 2011




The Generals Order Competition 2011 was held on 21st July (Preliminary Round) and 22nd July 2011 (Final) at Park View Primary School.

A total of 13 primary schools and 104 pupils had participated in the competition.

SYF Art Competition 2011—Silver Award


Ceramics work by pupils in the Art Club won a Silver award in this year’s SYF Visual Art Competition, “The Symphonic Canvas”. The artwork, “Our Pledge—handsomely portrayed” was an expression of our pupils’ nationalistic sentiments towards Racial Harmony. Their work is displayed at the SYF Art exhibition held on 6-20 July 2011 at the Millenia Walk.

South 6 Cluster Board Game Design Competition

3 pupils from Yangzheng Primary School have beaten 4 Secondary School teams to clinch the 3rd prize in the South 6 Cluster Board Game Design Competition which was held on 25 May 2011. They are from Primary 5A: Gan Kai Bin, Jorshall Law and Joseph Neoh.

“Save the Colour. Save Our Birds.”

Our Yangzhengnites participated in the  “Save the Colour. Save Our Birds" event. It took place at Jurong Bird Park on Friday, 3rd June 2011. The aim was to support and help the organiser to build origami homes for the birds. <Read more


Science Digital Games Competition (Gut Feel) Preliminary Competition 2011

A team of four pupils from 4A have clinched one of the top six positions in the “Gut Feel” Preliminary Competition organized by the Gifted Education Branch (MOE). The preliminary round was held on 24th May 2011 at Nanyang Primary School.
They will be selected to take part in the “Gut Feel” Competition Finals on 11th November 2011.



The participants are Kek Siew Qi, Lim Ee Xuan, Matthias, Joel Sie, Samuel Ding Yu Zhe and Tan Li Yang, Samuel from 4A.

National Scrabble Competition


Spelling their way to Success
 
YZPS Scrabblers did it again! Both senior and junior teams won big at the 10th Inter-School National Scrabble Championship 2011 held on the 2nd of June at Downtown East, D’ MARQUEE! Senior Team 1 placed 1st Runner-up in the Plate category and Junior Team 1 secured the 2nd Runner-up, also in the Plate category. The biggest winners, however, were Senior Team 3 who managed to become Overall Champions for the Bowl category! Well done guys! Read more

106th Anniversary (Tree Planting Event)

On 2nd March 2011, Wednesday, Yangzheng Primary celebrated our 106th Anniversary. One of the birthday celebrations was the planting of 20 trees in Yangzheng Primary School. Out of the 20 trees, two of the trees are actually ‘Made-In-Singapore’ trees (White teak). The rest were fruit trees and Tecoma Stans trees.The trees were contributed by Merck Pte. Ltd. (Singapore) and Temasek Life Science Laboratory as part of their environment protection programme. The big Yangzheng family compromising of members from our SAC (School Advisory Committee), PALS, school leaders, key personnel, teacher and student representatives participated in the tree planting. This event is in line with our school’s concerted “Go Green” efforts.

S5/S6 LSP Activity Day 2011


Our 18 P2 LSP pupils had a fun-filled day on 20 May 2011 playing educational games with other LSP pupils from other schools in S5 and S6 clusters. The event was held at Teck Ghee Primary School and the Guest of Honour was Mrs Mary Koh, Superintendent South 6 Schools Division. <Read More>

The Senior Boys, Junior Boys and Junior Girls teams took part in the South Zone Basketball Championships 2011 held from 24th Jan 2011 to 28th Feb 2011.

Gold Puan Noor Aishah Award and Chief Commissioner’s Badge Award

We are proud to announce that the Brownies have attained our 9th Gold PuanNoor Aishah Award for our active participation, contributions and achievements in 2010.

Singapore Chinese Orchestra at Yangzheng Primary School


 

On 6 April 11 during assembly, P3- P6 Yangzhengnites were treated to an engaging 45 min performance by Singapore  Chinese Orchestra . The objective of the performance  is to provide opportunities to our Yangzhengnites  to  appreciate  world class music at a young age.

Zhang Jing Wen of 3C and Kang Junha of 4B took part in the YMCA Mandarin Speaking Competition . They were shortlisted for the finals. Zhang Jing Wen from Primary 3C won the 3rd prize for the lower primary category.Congratulations!


Beijing Zhongde School - Yangzheng Primary School 2011





On the morning of 27th Jan 2011, 20 teachers and 14 students from Beijing Zhongde School arrived at Yangzheng Primary school and started their half- day visit for immersion  and cultural exchange. The school organized various teaching and learning activities to entice and immerse both students and teachers from Zhongde School. Read more

‘Let’s speak in our Mother Tongue. Let’s love our Mother Tongue’. That is the tagline for this year’s Mother Tongue Week celebration. Our principal, Mrs Lim launched a mini video and declared the MT week open from 28 March to 1 April 2011. Various enriching and interesting activities were conducted during this time-frame.

I Love My Community Garden: CSP Learning Journey



This year our P4 classes have adopted a community garden situated in Upper Serangoon. The objectives of this CSP is to cultivate a community garden in order to promote greater appreciation and understanding towards greenery as well as fostering social interaction and community bonding. Read more

Chinese New Year Celebration 2011

This year we celebrated Chinese New Year with a blast. Besides our own teachers and students, Mr Ng Siew Quan, Vice-Chairman of School Advisory Committee,  Mr Hoong Kong Fatt, Member of School Advisory Committee and our special guests, 8 residents from the Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital joined us for this joyous occasion.

The celebration kicked off with a modified story of a beast "nian" and his pet tiger. Then we were entertained by our Lion Dance Group and a
skit which focused on the practices and customs during the Chinese New Year. There were also performances by our Guzheng ensemble and Chinese Dance group. Our teachers too participated as they parade the couplets to welcome the Chinese New Year.

We were very happy that our 8 special guests from the Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital enjoyed themselves. They were so happy that they performed for us a dance! The pupils and the staff were thrilled by the spontaneity of our special guests! Xin Nian Kuai Le!

This year, Yangzheng Primary School highlighted the importance of Public Transport Security/ Anti-Terrorism aligned with this year’s theme,  ‘Home-Keeping It Together’ and in collaboration with Land Transport Authority (LTA).

YZPS celebrates its 106th Anniversary!



Strengthening our Roots” was the theme for this year’s celebrations. On Wednesday, 2 March, a mini concert was staged. Pupils were reminded of how they could be good ambassadors of the school and spread the good name of Yangzheng far and wide. <Click Here>

Story Challenge 2011



No safety in scripts, no time to ponder.
Eight of our Yangzhengnites took up the challenge.
They revved their creative engines,
spun tales and told funny stories. 

A round of applause for the Yangzhengnites who represented our school in Story Challenge 2011! We were the only school where both participating teams made it to the Semi-Finals. Boh Ze Xuan (5A), Tricia Chan (5A), Emily Tay (5B) and Liu Xiaowen (5A) clinched the First Runner-up spot while Asher Wu (6A), Hayden Chua (6A), Joel Tan (6A) and Shanmugam Saha (6A) were among the four teams who received Consolation prizes.  

National Schools Individual Chess Championships 2011



At the 63rd National Schools Individual Chess Championships 2011 organized by the Singapore Chess Federation, Chua Wenfeng, Jovan (P2D) came in 5th in the Under 8 Open Category and Jee Kai Xin (P5B) came in 6th in the Under 11 Girls Category.

PSLE 2010 – Our Largest Number of Top Scorers!

 

This year’s PSLE results saw 25(11%) of our P6 pupils scoring 250 and above. Out of the 25, 8 pupils managed to score 260 and above. Our top scorers taking Standard subjects are Deep Pandit (267), Esther Ng Ke Han (265), Li Lue (263) and Shermaine Loke Jia Qi (263). The Singapore Scout Association Centennial Medal - Gold

 

Our school teacher, Mrs Annie Chan, who is a passionate Scout leader, was conferred the Centennial Medal (Gold) by The Singapore Scout Association. She received the medal from Dr Vivian Balakrishnan on 4th September 2010.

On Monday 20 September, Ms Celestia Chew was conferred the Chief Scout's Commendation Award. She received the medal and certificate from the Chief Scout, His Excellency President S R Nathan at the Istana during a solemn ceremony. YZPS Recycling Carnival

 

On 1st November 2010, the Primary 6 pupil leaders collected recyclable items from the neighbourhood to create awareness in the local community about the importance of recycling. Proceeds from the sale of these items amounted to $2560 and it went to the Singapore Children's Society and Children's Cancer Foundation.<Read More>

"Are You Green" Gameshow

 

On 20th November 2010, four of our pupils, Lucas Foo (5A), Teng Pang Cheng (5A), Saw Man Lin (5A) and Nellis Kong (5A) took part in the "Are You Green" gameshow organized by NEA South East CDC. The boys' team came in first and the girls' team came in fourth in the gameshow. Well done, Yangzhengnites!


P2 Funny Costume Party

 

On 8th November 2010, a P2 Funny Costume Party was organized for the Primary 2 pupils as a post-exam activity. Pupils had to bring recyclable materials to school and dress their friends up during the party.<Read More>

6th National Junior Scrabble Championship



Yangzheng Scrabble Club bagged 4 prestigious awards at the recent 6th National Junior Championship held at Marsiling Secondary School on 28th August 2010. <Read More>


Amazing Science X-Challenge 2010

 

21 pupils from Primary 5A took part in this year’s Amazing Science X-Challenge (ASXC) organized by Singapore Science Centre and Singapore's national defence R&D organisation, DSO National Laboratories. The team consisting of Lucas Foo, Teng Wei Song and Chiang Kheng He received a ‘Special Mention Award’ for displaying the spirit of ASXC whereas the team consisting of Vanessa Wan, Christina Tio and Russell Yeo received the 3rd prize. <Read More>

Sports Fiesta 2010

On Wednesday, 4 August 2010, Yangzheng had its own Mini-Olympics – The Sports Fiesta. The Primary 1 and Primary 2 pupils took part in telematches, while each of the Primary 3 to Primary 6 pupils participated in one of the 7 games, namely, basketball, captain’s ball, dodgeball, floorball, skipping, soccer and novelty event. <Read More>

Frank Cooper Sands Award - GOLD


Yangzheng Cub Scouts Unit was awarded the Frank Cooper Sands GOLD Award for the 15th consecutive year on 31st July 2010 at Singapore Scouts Association (SSA) for its sterling performance in 2009. <Read More>

YZPS celebrates its 105th Anniversary !



The theme ‘RICH HERITAGE, VIBRANT PRESENT, PROMISING FUTURE’ was used in portraying the school’s journey towards achieving excellence. On Friday, 23 July 2010, the school held a grand celebration in the school hall with the Director of Schools, Mr Wong Siew Hoong as our Guest-of-Honour. <Read More>



Racial Harmony Day 2010   

     

On Wednesday, 21 July 2010, Yangzheng commemorated Racial Harmony Day(RHD). The 'Son of an Immigrant' animated video produced by our pupils was launched by Dr Cheah Horn Mun, Director of Educational Technology, MOE. It will be used as a teaching and learning resource for Primary 5 Social Studies.

 

On RHD, Yangzhengnites played 'kampong games' set up by the National Heritage Board at the concourse and tasted 'Singapore Heritage Cuisine' at the traditional food bazaar set up by our parent support group, PALS, at the canteen. They also listened to 'Singapore Heritage Stories' at the library by story tellers from both primary and secondary students of South 6 Cluster schools.

 

PALs and other parent volunteers together with the staff assisted at the various learning stations to ensure the smooth-running of the event.

The P5 Learning Journey took on the theme of National Education. We visited the Asian Civilisation Museum (ACM), Parliament House Visitors' Centre and took a trail along Boat Quay. <Read More>

E³ Day for P4 - Botanic Gardens

On 13th July 2010, the whole of P4 level went to the Botanic Gardens for their E³ Day. This learning journey integrated Science and Mother Tongue Subjects. Pupils had to complete different activities in four stations. These stations were located around the Botanic Gardens; hence pupils had the opportunity to enjoy the flora and fauna around them as they make their way to the different stations.<Read More>

On 14 July, Wednesday morning, all the P2 classes went to various Pizza Hut outlets for their learning journey. ACJC Summer Camp 2010

 

 

4 teams (consisting of 8 members in each team) took part in this year’s ACJC Summer Camp, organized by Anglo-Chinese Junior College on the 29th May 2010. The team from Primary 5A (Nellis Kong, Benjemin Chin, Markus Lim, Ivan Loh, Trevor Tan, Jamie Jessica Leong, Wong Guan Min and Lim Ming Hui) won a Bronze Award in the overall championship and the team from Primary 6A (Tan Zi Rong, Shermaine Loke, Oh Huan Xuan, Addrish Adri and Tan Guan Fan) won a Gold Award in the Outdoor Lab category. <Read More>
